Volunteer Spotlight -
Sue Knorr

“You follow that child through everything until adoption or reunification.  You can also improve their school experience, see that they have medical care and any other services that they might need.  If there’s an item a child needs, somehow CASA pulls it out of a hat.”

My Story

It was March of 2008 when Sue Knorr received her acceptance letter from CASA. She was recently retired at the time and in the sixteen years that followed she has served the children of our community as a steadfast advocate of children in foster care who have suffered abuse and neglect.  She has also provided guidance and support to other volunteers since becoming a Peer Coach in 2013.

Sue has been assigned (as advocate or peer coach) on over 50 cases! Her contribution over time is immeasurable, but CASA’s Director of Program Services Shannon Casula had this to say, “Sue's dedication to advocating for children was evident in every case she was involved in. Whether serving as an advocate or offering guidance as a peer coach, Sue consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication and empathy, always prioritizing the well-being of the children above all else!”

During her time volunteering, Sue found the most enjoyable part to be when the child achieved permanency, whether it be reunification or adoption. Witnessing several adoptions as well as “a mother who moved heaven and earth to get her child back into her home” were rewarding and meaningful experiences. When asked how she explains what CASA is and what they do, Sue tells them what the acronym stands for and that you have access to everything related to the child which puts you in a very good position to help them. In regards to making a difference in a child’s life, Sue explains “You follow that child through everything until adoption or reunification.  You can also improve their school experience, see that they have medical care and any other services that they might need.  If there’s an item a child needs, somehow CASA pulls it out of a hat.”

We at CASA of Atlantic, Cape May, and Atlantic Counties are grateful for Sue’s generosity of time and dedication to the children you have served.  The entire staff and board would like to express our appreciation for your exemplary volunteerism during your sixteen year tenure. When you volunteer, you are making a commitment to share that most precious of resources — your time — to make life better for those who are in need.  Your dedication as a volunteer is an inspiration to others. Please know that your volunteerism is recognized, appreciated, valued, and cherished.  Thank you!
